In what was a day of the unexpected, the OCAA Men’s
Basketball championship has now taken on a completely new look as
three of the top four seeds have been ousted from the tournament
and only one team remains from the East Region, the defending
silver medalists St. Lawrence Vikings.
The Sheridan Bruins were the only team to survive their
quarter-final game, defeating the Algonquin Thunder 74-59. In the
most shocking game of the opening round, the Algoma Thunderbirds
handily defeated the powerful Centennial Colts 67-44. In the final
games of the day, the Humber Hawks had their 17 year run of
capturing a provincial medal snapped at the hands of the red hot
St. Lawrence Kingston Vikings who upended the Etobicoke team 59-58,
despite a thrilling half court buzzer beater by the Hawks. The
final game of the night also went down to the wire with the
defending Provincial Champions, Fanshawe Falcons squeaking out a
66-65 victory over the Fleming Knights.
Listed are the complete results for the day as well as the Day 2
