The University of Northern British Columbia is set to host the
CN 2009 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship this
upcoming weekend in Prince George, BC. This years field will
feature two teams from the OCAA as the Humber Hawks earned their
way in as the Champions from Ontario, while the Algonquin Thunder
were awarded one the wildcards spots. The Hawks enter the
tournament as the third seed and will take on the six seed from
Montmorency at 3pm on the 20th. Prior to the Humber games the
seventh seeded Algonquin Thunder will square off against Mount
Royal at 1pm.
The tournament officially gets under way on Thursday night at the
Awards Banquet. Algonquin’s Charly Spurr is nominated for the
CCAA Player of the Year award, while Humber’s coach Darrell
Glenn is nominated for the CCAA Coach of the Year award. Brady
Bolan of Cambrian and Charly Spurr of the Thunder will be
recognized as CCAA All-Canadians.
The CN 2009 CCAA Men’s National Basketball Championship
features the top eight men’s basketball teams in Canada,
seeding in the following order:
1) MSVU
2) Mount Royal
3) Humber
4) Champlain
5) UBC-O
6) Montmorency
7) Algonquin
8) UNBC
