HUMBER HAWKS REPEAT AS OCAA CHAMPIONS

The Humber Hawks men's basketball team capped off an impressive 17-1 season with a 59-48 win over the host Fanshawe Falcons at the belairdirect 2010 OCAA Men's Basketball Championships played at Fanshawe's London Campus. The game was tight from the opening tip-off with seven lead changes in the first half alone. The second half was the difference however, as Humber outscored Fanshawe by 10 points to repeat as OCAA Champions. Daviau Rodney of Humber elevated his game come crunch time once again as was named the Championship MVP for the second straight year. First Round Matches - Thursday, March 4th @ Fanshawe

Game E: 2pm - Algoma 52 vs. St. Lawrence 68

The St. Lawrence College (SLC) Vikings have advanced to the semi-finals of the belairdirect 2010 OCAA Men's Basketball Championships hosted by Fanshawe College this week. The Vikings defeated the Algoma Thunderbirds by a score of 68-52 this (Thursday) afternoon. Ajahmo Clarke led the way offensively for SLC with 14 points -- one of four Vikings with double-digit point totals.

SLC First-Year Adrian Tomlinson, who earlier in the day was named OCAA Rookie of the Year, poured in 11 points. Vikings Romaine Lawrence and Jerome Guthrie also had 10 points apiece.

Algoma's O'Brian Wallace and Tylor Hynd both collected 10 points respectively while Dele Owuru had six points and 11 rebounds. SLC next plays at 6:00 pm on tomorrow (Friday) facing the winner of the Algonquin/Fanshawe Semi-Final which will be played this evening (Thursday) at 8:00 pm.

Game F: 4pm - Fleming 41 vs. Humber 52

After trailing for a majority of their quarter-final matchup against Fleming College, the Humber Hawks have advanced to the semi-finals of the belairdirect 2010 OCAA Men's Basketball Championships hosted by Fanshawe College.

Fleming lead the game until Humber took the lead with 4:36 remaining in the second half and never looked back and won by a score of 52-41. Michael Acheampong and Daviau Rodney lead the way offensively for Humber. Acheampong ended with 16 points and Rodney had 15.

Humber's Jadwey Hemmings had 10 boards and 4 points in the winning effort. Mike Grant and Olando Palmer contributing double-digit point totals for Fleming with Grant notching 17 and Palmer 12 along with his 11 rebounds.

Humber next plays at 8:00 tomorrow (Friday) facing the winner of Sheridan/Seneca quarter-final which will be played this evening (Thursday) at 6:00 pm.

Game H: 6pm - Sheridan 76 vs. Seneca 60

The Sheridan Bruins dominated their quarter-final game with the Seneca Sting culminating with a convincing 76-60 win at the belairdirect 2010 OCAA Men's Basketball Championships. With the win, the Bruins move onto the semi-finals to be played tomorrow (Friday).

Khalid Abdel-Gabar was the cornerstone of the Sheridan offensive attack; notching 22 points.

The Bruins also received offensive contributions from both Both Matt Cosby (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Greg Osawe (10 points).

Seneca's Vadim Halimov lead the way for Seneca with 19 points and 7 rebounds while Norman Hamilton (11 points, 10 rebounds) and James Forrester (11 points, 5 rebounds) also finished with double-digit point totals.

Sheridan will next face Humber in a semi-final match-up tomorrow (Friday) at 8:00 pm.

Game G: 8pm - Algonquin 55 vs. Fanshawe 68

The host Fanshawe Falcons defeated the Algonquin Thunder 68-55 in the final quarter-final game of the day (Thursday) at the belairdirect 2010 OCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

The Falcons never looked back after taking the lead about 10 minutes into the first half.

Leading the way for the Falcons was Manny Campbell (16 points, 3 rebounds) and Bryan Kamerman (16 points, 8 rebounds). Also in double-digit scoring for Fanshawe was Andy Campbell (11 points, 3 rebounds).

Abdul Kosar (18 points, 4 rebounds) and Njuguna Waiganjo (12 points, 5 rebounds) poured in more than half the points for the Thunder.

Fanshawe will now face St. Lawrence in a semi-final matchup tomorrow (Friday) at 6:00 pm.

Semi-Finals - Friday, March 5th @ Fanshawe

Semi Final #1: 6:00 p.m. St. Lawrence 57 vs. Fanshawe 67

Since 1968 the host team has only won gold six times and the Fanshawe Falcons are on their way to making that seven at the belairdirect 2010 OCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

The host Falcons are guaranteed at least a silver medal after beating St. Lawrence by a score of 67-57 in front of a raucous crowd at Fanshawe's London Campus.

Will Bradbury led the way offensively for the Falcons with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Bradbury also went an impressive 8 for 10 from the free-throw line. Manny Campbell (13 points, 5 rebounds) and Bryan Kamerman (10 points, 3 rebounds) also rounded out the top-end of the Falcon's offence.

A majority of the Vikings offence came from across the board with Saliym Cadogan (12 points), Ajahmo Clarke (11 points) and Byrna McMillan (9 points, 9 rebounds) standing out.It was a perimeter game with both teams combining for 15 three-point shots.

The Fanshawe Falcons will face the winner of this (Friday) evening's semi-final game between Humber and Sheridan tomorrow (Saturday) at 5:00 pm for the OCAA Men's Basketball Gold Medal.

The St Lawrence College Vikings await the loser of today's (Friday's) semi-final to face them tomorrow (Saturday) at 3:00 pm for the OCAA Men's Basketball Bronze Medal.

Semi Final #2: 8:00 p.m. Humber 61 vs. Sheridan 50

The Championship match-up is all set. The Humber Hawks will face the host Fanshawe Falcons for the gold medal at the belairdirect 2010 OCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

Humber advanced with a 61-50 win over rival Sheridan in front of an evenly split crowd cheering for both teams. Both clubs had a largenumber of fans travel to Fanshawe to see the game.

Four Humber players had double-digit point totals. Daviau Rodney had 16 points, Jeremy Alleyne had 14 and JR Bailey and Michael Acheampong had 11 point totals apiece.

Kareem Malcolm lead the offensive attack for Sheridan with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Bode Olagunfoye contributed 14 points in the losing effort.

The gold medal game between Fanshawe and Humber is scheduled for 5:00 pm tomorrow (Saturday) at the Fanshawe College London Campus.

The Sheridan Bruins will face the St. Lawrence College Vikings at 3:00 tomorrow (Saturday) for the OCAA Men's Basketball Bronze Medal.

Bronze Medal Game - St. Lawrence 88 vs. Sheridan 81

The St. Lawrence College (SLC) Vikings have won the bronze medal at the belairdirect 2010 OCAA Men's Basketball Championships hosted by Fanshawe College.

The Vikings' Ajahmo Clarke contributed 20 points and 6 rebounds as they went on to a 88-81 victory over the Sheridan Bruins.

SLC had three others in double-digit point totals including Remy Simpson (17 points, 6 rebounds) and Mackenzie Simpson (15 points).

Leading the way offensively for Sheridan was Kareem Malcolm who poured in 21 points and 8 rebounds. Greg Osawe had 17 points and 9 rebounds while Khalid Abdel-Gabar added 15 points of his own.

The stage is now set for the host Fanshawe Falcons and Humber Hawks to battle for the OCAA Men's Basketball Gold Medal in a game slated for 5:00 pm. today (Saturday) at Fanshawe College's London Campus.

Gold Medal Game - Fanshawe 48 vs. Humber 59

The Humber Hawks men's basketball team capped off an impressive 17-1 season with a 59-48 win over the host Fanshawe Falcons at the belairdirect 2010 OCAA Men's Basketball Championships played at Fanshawe's London Campus.

The second half was the difference however, as Humber outscored Fanshawe by 10 points to claim the OCAA Men's Basketball Gold Medal. Daviau Rodney lead the way offensively for the Hawks with 20 points in the gold medal game while Fanshawe's Pat right poured in 13 points for the OCAA Silver-Medalist Falcons.

Sheridan's Kareem Malcon, St. Lawrence College's Ajahmo Clark, Fanshawe's Pat Wright and Manny Campbell, and Humber's J.R. Bailey were selected as the tournament all-stars.

Humber's Daviau Rodney was selected as the tournament MVP. Jim Flack, Head Coach of the Sheridan Bruins was selected for the Fair Play Award.

"We started planning this event two years ago," Mike Lindsay, Fanshawe College Athletic Director said. "We had a tremendous hosting team and created the atmosphere to be successful but Humber took it away from us on the court. Humber should represent the Ontario conference well at the CCAA Championships having been there many times."

"We are proud of the student volunteers and really happy with the response from the London community and everybody around our team. This is another example of Fanshawe's expertise in hosting top notch Provincial and National events."

Lindsay said Fanshawe College is looking forward to hosting the OCAA Cross Country Championships in the fall of 2010 and the OCAA Badminton Championships in the winter of 2011.
