Quarter-Final Game #4: Fanshawe defeats Durham
79-67
Fanshawe is the final team to advance at the OCAA Mens Basketball
Championships in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Falcons beat the Durham Lords 79-67 to move on.
Fanshawe held a 37-31 lead at halftime and held off an earl second
half Durham run that tied the game to pick up the win.
Jordan Dixon led the way for Fanshawe with 21 points. Matthew
Tkaczyk chipped in with 16 points while Mike Dubreuil added 10.
Eric Smith scored 22 points to lead Durham while Tyler McGarrity
added 20 in the loss.
Fanshawe advances to face Humber in the second semi-final on Friday
night. Tip-off for that game is set for 8 p.m.
Quarter-Final Game #3: Humber defeats Seneca
65-51
Humber advanced to the semi-finals at the OCAA Mens Basketball
Championships in Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday thanks to a 65-51
victory over the Seneca Sting.
Humber opened up a 38-25 lead through the first half and cruised to
the 14-point victory.
Michael Acheampong led Humber with 24 points in the win. Mark
Perrin added eight points while Kern Lewis and Raymond Munier added
seven points each. Only three members of the Humber roster
didn’t record points in the win.
Felix Adjei scored 14 points to lead Seneca. Norman Hamilton added
12 points and Jermaine Lightbody scored 10 in the loss.
Humber moves on to the second semi-final game on Friday with tip
off set for 8 p.m. Humber will face the winner of the final round
robin game tonight at the Essar Centre between the Durham Lords and
Fanshawe Falcons.
Quarter-Final Game #2: Algonquin defeats Niagara
82-78
Despite trailing by a point at halftime, the Algonquin Thunder is
heading to the semi-final of the OCAA Men’s Basketball
Championships in Sault Ste. Marie.
Algonquin won a narrow 82-78 decision over the Niagara Knights on
Thursday.
CCAA All-Canadian Njuguna Waiganjo led the way for Algonquin with
22 points while Landry Ndayiwyeko added 17 in the win. Abdul Kosar
added 15 while Garnet Blais also hit double figures for Algonquin
with 10 points.
CJ Smith turned in a strong performance for Niagara with 27 points
and seven rebounds in the loss. Lamar Grant and Jeremy Settimi
added 11 points each in the loss.
With the win, Algonquin will now face Sheridan in Friday’s
first semi-final game. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. at the Essar
Centre.
Quarter-Final Game #1: Sheridan defeats Algoma
83-77
A strong second half helped the Sheridan College Bruins advance in
the OCAA Men’s Basketball Championships on Thursday.
Sheridan defeated the Algoma University Thunderbirds 83-77 to
advance into Friday’s semi-final where they will face the
winner of the Algonquin/Niagara game.
Khalid Abdel-Gabar led Sheridan with 26 points, which included five
three-pointers. Greg Osawe added 14 points while Michael Selkridge
chipped in with 13 points.
“I told our team before the game, ‘This has been an
unbelievable opportunity that Algoma University has given us here
and to enjoy it whether you win or lose’,” said
Sheridan coach Jim Flack. “I wasn’t going to be upset
if we lost as long as we competed.”
Pat Murray led Algoma with 21 points though Sheridan limited him to
just four points in the second half. Tyler Hynd added 19 in the
win. DJ Wright, a force for Algoma at times this season was limited
to just 13 points in the loss.
“Their pressure was a factor for us to handle,” said
Algoma coach Thomas Cory. “We struggled with it at times. We
got up early and made some runs but their pressure just gets to
you. If you can’t handle it. We broke the pressure but we
couldn’t break it to score.”
Sheridan now advances to play the winner of the Algonquin/Niagara
game. Game time for that semi-final is 6 p.m. on Friday night.
