TORONTO - The following have been named Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) basketball student-athletes of the week
for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 29.
MALE: Jovain Wilson, Algoma
Fourth-year guard Jovain Wilson (Pickering, Ont.)
scored 42 points in a pair of Algoma victories this past weekend.
Wilson scored a game-high 22 points and added five rebounds and
three steals in a 87-45 win at Lambton on Jan. 28. He followed this
up with a 20-point performance in a 97-47 victory at St. Clair on
Jan. 29. Wilson earned five rebounds, four steals and three assists
against St. Clair. Algoma (10-3) is the first team to hit the
10-win plateau in the OCAA West region.
FEMALE: Sandre Bascoe, Algonquin
The Algonquin Thunder have won 10 straight and Sandre
Bascoe (Ottawa) is a big reason why. The third-year
forward earned a double-double with a game-high 18 points and 14
rebounds in a 66-46 win over Durham on Jan. 27. Bascoe added
another 10 points and seven rebounds in addition to five steals in
a 70-39 win over Loyalist on Jan. 28. Bascoe is among the league
leaders averaging 17.3 points per game. Algonquin leads the OCAA
East region with a record of 10-1.
