TORONTO - The following have been named Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) basketball student-athletes of the week
for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 26.
MALE: Dele Oworu, Algoma
Algoma fifth-year forward Dele Oworu (Winnipeg)
earned a double-double in a 74-69 sudden death playoff victory over
George Brown. Oworu scored a game-high 28 points while adding 13
rebounds, seven of which came in the defensive end of the court. He
also added a pair of assists and a steal. Oworu averaged a
double-double throughout the regular season producing 13.4 points
and 11.6 rebounds per game. Algoma is off to the OCAA Men’s
Basketball Championship later this week.
FEMALE: Michelle Asare, Sheridan
Sheridan third-year guard Michelle Asare
(Brampton, Ont.) was strong down the stretch in a 89-53 sudden
death playoff win at Fleming-Peterborough. Asare finished the game
with 20 points while contributing six rebounds, three steals and
one assist. Asare averaged 13.1 points per game during the regular
season. With the win, Sheridan advances to the OCAA Women’s
Basketball Championship, a tournament in which the Bruins have
appeared in the final for four straight seasons.
