OCAA BASKETBALL ALL-STARS HEADED TO CENTENNIAL COLLEGE

OCAA BASKETBALL ALL-STARS HEADED TO CENTENNIAL COLLEGE

TORONTO - The best of the best in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) basketball will be on display at Centennial College on Saturday in the 2012 OCAA Basketball All-Star Games.

The 25th annual event brings together the elite collegiate basketball players from across the province for a day of camaraderie and competition. Seventy-five student-athletes will be representing 20 Ontario colleges and universities at this event.

Two members of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) men's basketball champions will take to the court in Scarborough. CCAA all-Canadian Aminu Bello (Hamilton, Ont.) and OCAA championship MVP Manny Campbell (Burlington, Ont.) of the Mohawk Mountaineers form the nucleus of Team West. They will be joined by CCAA and OCAA men's basketball player of the year Jovain Wilson (Pickering, Ont.) of Algoma.

Team East will be represented by Centennial's own Tristan Stern (Whitby, Ont.), the reigning OCAA rookie of the year.

On the women's side, Team East will be led by OCAA women's player of the year Sandre Bascoe (Ottawa) of the two-time OCAA champion Algonquin Thunder. Bascoe will go head-to-head with fellow CCAA all-Canadian Corina Bruni (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) of Algoma, who headlines Team West.

In addition to the games, there will be a men's and women's three-point competition. Some student-athletes showing their skills from beyond the arc include Sheridan's Khalid Abdel-Gabar (Mississauga, Ont.) and Fleming-Peterborough's Kelly Killoran (Sarnia, Ont.), both of whom led OCAA in three-pointers during the regular season.

A co-ed team skills challenge will take place at 2:15 p.m. in advance of the all-star games. The women take to the court at 3:30 p.m., followed by the men at 6 p.m. The three-point shootout will take place throughout the day, with finals taking place at halftime during both all-star games. There will also be a Scarborough Basketball Association under 11 boy's game between Team Alleyne and Team Chionglo at 5:15 p.m.
