ADJEI NAMED OCAA MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

MARKHAM, Ont. - Seneca College's Felix Adjei was named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) men's basketball player of the year in a ceremony held at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Toronto-Markham on Thursday morning as part of the 2013 belairdirect OCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

Adjei (Toronto) won the OCAA East and overall scoring championship with ease, leading all OCAA players with a 22.1 points per game average. The third-year Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) all-Canadian was the only OCAA player to surpass 400 points during the regular season with 419. He also contributed 98 rebounds, 43 assists, 34 steals and 17 blocks. The member of the East regional champion Sting headlines the OCAA East first-team all-stars.

Joining Adjei as an all-Canadian is Mohawk fifth-year point guard Manny Campbell (Burlington). Campbell was among the OCAA's top five players in steals with 57 and assists with 69. Campbell averaged 13.7 points per game while contributing 76 rebounds and three blocks. He is also an OCAA West first-team all-star.

Humber's Tyrone Dickson is the OCAA West and overall rookie of the year. Dickson (Scarborough) led the Hawks in three statistical categories with 243 points, 157 rebounds and 29 blocks. He also contributed 30 assists and 19 steals. Dickson is also a member of the OCAA West second-team all-stars as well as the West all-rookie team.

Calmar Morgan of Seneca is the OCAA East rookie of the year. Morgan (Scarborough) was a positive addition to the Sting averaging 14.2 points per game while contributing 78 rebounds, 32 assists, 24 steals and 270 total points. Morgan is a member of the OCAA East all-rookie team.

Jim Flack of Sheridan is the OCAA West coach of the year and is the OCAA nominee for CCAA coach of the year. The Bruins had the best record in OCAA at 18-2, winning the West region championship by two games. It marks Sheridan's first divisional title since 2003-04. The Bruins had a perfect record at home, and one of their two road losses came in overtime.

George Brown's Jonathan Smith is the OCAA East coach of the year. The Huskies improved on back-to-back sixth place finishes in the division, placing second with a 16-4 record. Although George Brown lost the division title to Seneca, the Huskies defeated the Sting in both regular season meetings.

Jimmy Bilenga of Niagara is the scoring champion of the OCAA West. Bilenga (Hamilton) averaged 18.6 points per game totaling 261 points. Bilenga is also an OCAA West second-team all-star.

Georgian's Jevon Francis (Innisfil) is the OCAA East defensive player of the year. Francis topped all East players with 178 rebounds, while also contributing 44 steals.

Taylor Dowhaniuk (Dundas) of Mohawk is the OCAA West defensive player of the year. Dowhaniuk led the OCAA in blocks with 72, nearly doubling his closest rival. He also grabbed 175 rebounds and added 18 steals. 

Joining Adjei as OCAA East first-team all-stars are Algonquin's Garnet Blais (Ottawa); Jameel Williamson (Ajax) of Centennial; George Brown's Bruno Silvestrin (Toronto); and Patrick Kalala (Ajax) of Loyalist.

Along with Campbell, Michael Selkridge (Brampton) and Jahmal McQueen (Oakville) of Sheridan; Fanshawe's Boyd Vassell (Kitchener); and Andrew Cicuttini (Dundas) of Mohawk are OCAA West first-team all-stars.

Centennial's Tristan Stern (Whitby); Salissou Abdoulkader (Toronto) of George Brown; La Cite's Daniel Gracia (Ottawa); Vadim Halimov (Uzbekistan) of Seneca; and St. Lawrence-Kingston's Terence Thomas (Ottawa) were named to the OCAA East all-star second team.

Alex Campbell (Brampton) of Niagara; Redeemer's Calvin Turnbull (Burlington) and Mike Lucier (Forest) of Lambton join Dickson and Bilenga on the OCAA West all-star second team.

Loyalist teammates Brayden Gohn (Holland Landing) and Jordan Marlowe (Richmond Hill); Centennial's Alex Hagoriles (Toronto); and Stefan Rudic (Munich, Germany) of Georgian join Morgan on the OCAA East all-rookie team.

Joining Dickson as OCAA West all-rookies are Algoma's Samy Mohamed (Scarborough); Chavaun Miller-Bennett (London) of Fanshawe; Mohawk's Xzennis Brereton (Toronto) and Kadeem Hall (Mississauga) of Sheridan.
