The St. Clair College Basketball programs have enjoyed a good
summer of recruiting with some outstanding new talent set to take
the floor the Saints this upcoming season. The Saints schedule is
also highlighted by a trip to North Vancouver, B.C., Thanksgiving
weekend for a pre-season tournament hosted by Capilano
University.
The women's basketball team will attempt to suit up three sisters
in returning players Kelly and Katie
Rizea along with older sibling Kendyl.
Other returning players include Daniella Abrams,
Kayla Langlois, Tracy Fick,
Angel Russell, Sabrina Uras,
Deanna Dunn and Bienka Jones. Key
recruits to the fold include Tori Schutz (St.
Thomas of Villanova), Rachel Duic (St. Anne) and
Jade Lyons (F.J. Brennan).
On the men's side, head coach Matt Devin returns
Saints rookie of the year Anthony DeRose along
with Alex Temesy and Eli Hesley.
Key recruits include McMaster transfer Matt
Barker, who played for the CIS champion football team in
2011. Jay Gander (Riverside) will bolster the
frontcourt along with Mitch Girard (General
Amherst). However, a pair of Leamington, Ont., natives in
Dave Younan (Cardinal Carter) and Andy
Malott (Leamington) will make impacts right away who are
both former Mr. Basketball players from high school.
The Saints open up the OCAA West Region regular season with a pair
of home games Nov. 3 and 4 against Sault and Algoma.
