DURHAM SET TO HOST 36TH ANNUAL DAVID STEWART TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT

OSHAWA, Ont. - The official start to the college basketball season has arrived as the 36th annual Durham College David Stewart Tip-Off Tournament is scheduled to take place from October 12-13 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

Eight of the top teams from Ontario and Quebec will be competing in the two-day tournament. This year's field will include St. Lawrence (Kingston, Ont.), Centennial (Scarborough, Ont.), Fanshawe (London, Ont.), Loyalist (Belleville, Ont.), John Abbott (Montreal, Que.), George Brown (Toronto), Algoma University (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) and the host Durham College (Oshawa, Ont.).

Four games will take place throughout the day on Friday, October 12 starting at 2 p.m. The teams will then be split up into a two brackets (winners/losers) for action on Saturday. The championship final is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 13.

Centennial College enters the tournament as the defending champions, after beating Durham in the 2011 finals. Durham won the tournament in 2010.

Friday, October 12
Game One: Fanshawe vs. Centennial (2 p.m.)
Game Two: Algoma vs. St. Lawrence (4 p.m.)
Game Three: John Abbott vs. George Brown (6 p.m.)
Game Four: Durham vs. Loyalist (8 p.m.)

Saturday, October 13
Consolation Semi-Final #1 – Loser Game #1 vs. Loser Game #2 (9 a.m.)
Consolation Semi-Final #2 – Loser Game #3 vs. Loser Game #4 (11 a.m.)
Semi-Final #1 – Winner Game #1 vs. Winner Game #2 (1 p.m.)
Semi-Final #2 – Winner Game #3 vs. Winner Game #4 (3 p.m.)
Consolation Final (5 p.m.)
Championship Final (7 p.m.)
