DURHAM LORDS TO RETIRE ANTHONY BATCHELOR'S NO. 32

OSHAWA, Ont. - Anthony Batchelor, the all-time leading scorer in Canadian Collegiate basketball history, will become the fourth player in Durham College men's basketball history to have his uniform and number permanently retired. The retirement for Batchelor's No. 32 will take place on Friday, November 23 when the Lords host the Georgian Grizzlies at the Campus Recreation and WellnessCentre.

Batchelor will join former Lords No. 3 Ken Upshaw (1982-86), No. 40 Augusto Duquesne (1994-97) and No. 5 Bill Crowdis (1996-99) in have their jerseys retired.

The presentation will take place prior to the men's basketball game at 8 p.m., and will be made by athletic director Ken Babcock.

"We are thrilled and honoured to be recognizing Anthony's sensational college basketball career at Durham College," said Babcock. "A career that saw him amass the greatest total of points in Canadian college basketball history as well as shattering the Durham College single game scoring record which now stands at 58. It should be a great night and we look forwarding to welcoming back Anthony, his family, students, staff and alumni."

Batchelor finished his five-year career as the all-time leading scorer with 1,833 points, smashing the previous record of 1,434 held by Emilio Rocca of Fanshawe College for over 22 years.

He won a number of provincial and national awards throughout his collegiate career, including being named a CCAA-All-Canadian, the OCAA Player of the Year and a four-time OCAA All-Star.

At Durham College, he was a five-time men's basketball MVP and was named the overall athlete of the year in 2006-07 and 2007-08. He also broke the Durham College single game all-time record (previously held by Augusto Duquesne, 40 points), pouring in 58 points against the La Cite Coyotes on his home court.

Academics was also a priority for Batchelor as he won a number of OCAA All-Academic awards and was a CCAA Academic All-Canadian. He was also the Durham College Dr. Gary Polonsky leadership award winner in 2006-07.

Batchelor is currently working for Customs Canada border patrol full-time and a two-diploma graduate of Durham College (primarily Law & Security).
