FANSHAWE GYMNASIUM RENAMED TO HONOUR JOHNSTON

LONDON, Ont. - Fanshawe College has proudly announced their gymnasium has been renamed as the Glenn Johnston Athletics Centre to honour the long-time Fanshawe College men's basketball coach.

The announcement was made during halftime at a game between the Fanshawe Falcons and the Canadore Panthers basketball teams on Saturday (December 1).

"Coach Glenn Johnston is a Fanshawe Falcons legend," Robert Kitchen, Fanshawe College acting manager of athletics said. "We are proud of his accomplishments, and all of the things his teams have done over the years. While we definitely miss his presence on the sidelines, we want him to know just how much we have appreciated his work on behalf of Fanshawe."

The Fanshawe Falcons men's basketball team won two national and six provincial titles under his leadership. He was named the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) and Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) Coach of the Year four times and received the Coaching Excellence award in 1995.

Coach Johnston finished his Fanshawe career coaching a total of 660 games with 437 wins during his 35 years.
