A jam packed Fennell Gymnasium enjoyed an exciting opening night in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association men's basketball Tuesday October 30. The Mohawk Mountaineers received their rings for last season's national championship. Then the 2012-13 version of the squad opened their schedule with an 84-74 victory over the Niagara Knights.
 
Taylor Dowhaniuk led Mohawk with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Andrew Cicuttini had a monster night with 15 points and 21 rebounds, while Manny Campbell collected 15 points, seven rebounds and nine assists.
 
For Niagara, Alex Campbell scored 20 points, while Lawrence McNeil had 16 points and 15 rebounds and Jimmy Bilenga collected 13 points.
