ALGONQUIN 80, GEORGIAN 67

BARRIE, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team couldn't find a way to beat the undefeated Algonquin Thunder falling 80-67 Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.

The Grizzlies had trouble finding their scoring touch early and the Thunder took advantage getting ahead 18-11 after one quarter. The Grizzlies rebounded in the second outscoring the Thunder 21-19 but trailed at halftime 37-32.

Coming out of the halftime break, Algonquin had a new energy and were able to hit key baskets scoring 22 points in the third and holding the Grizzlies to only 12.

Despite a valiant effort in the fourth by Georgian it was too little too late as the Thunder extended their OCAA season opening win streak to five games.

Stefan Rudic was solid again putting up 15 points while Nolan Knill had 12 points for the Grizzlies. Georgian's Justin Mitchell was a firecracker for the squad off the bench working furiously, earning three steals in just less than nine minutes of play.

Garnet Blais and Mahamat-Ali Haggar both led the way with 14 points each while Dut Dut had 10 for the visiting Thunder.

The Grizzlies will hit the road starting next Friday night when they travel to Oshawa to play the Durham Lords. They will then have road games November 24 at Fleming and November 28 against George Brown.

Georgian's next home game will be on Wednesday, December 5 when they host the Seneca Sting at 8 p.m.
