ST. LAWRENCE (K) 77, CAMBRIAN 50

KINGSTON, Ont. - Having lost in the last 20 seconds to George Brown College on the pervious day, the Vikings were looking to rebound against Cambrian College on Saturday. Even though Cambrian is winless (0-9) for the season, head coach Barry Smith knew his team could not take their opponent likely. "We know they are hungry for a win, and they are going to play aggressive ball to get ahead and keep a lead," said Barry.

St. Lawrence would pull away in the first quarter, but Cambrian played strong basketball to only be down by eight points at the end of the first 10 minutes. In the second quarter, St. Lawrence would begin forcing turnovers, and were able to capture 18 points, as a result. Smith gave some of his rookie players some great experience in the half. Jon Visentin scored six points with four rebounds, while teammate Warsame Yousouff recorded three points and three rebounds in the half, to put the team up 42-27 at the half.

The second half featured more of St. Lawrence playing strong basketball, blocking shots, forcing turnovers, and extending their lead even further over the Golden Shield. Defensively, the Vikings would not allow any easy shots for Cambrian, forcing them to take difficult shots. While St. Lawrence would continue to drive the lane for uncontested layups, and take open shots. Vikings would go on to defeat the Golden Shield 77-50.

Second-year player Tigh Chapman played a great game and led SLC scoring 20 points and bringing down 10 rebounds. Jon Visentin had a strong finish getting over 27 minutes of playing time, recording nine points and 12 rebounds.

The Vikings will travel to Belleville, Ont. on Tuesday for the last game before the Holiday break, to take on the Loyalist College Lancers. Game time is 8 p.m.
