FANSHAWE 86, ST. CLAIR 72

Fanshawe (10-1) defeated St. Clair (3-8) by a score of 86-72.

Fanshawe started well building a five-point lead after the first quarter which St. Clair erased taking a brief lead at 23-22 early in the second.

Fanshawe then rattled off 23 straight points entering halftime with a 50-29 advantage.

The Saints had an outstanding third quarter, however, outscoring Fanshawe 25-16 in the frame and cutting the lead to just eight points at 59-51.

The lead proved just too much to overcome as Fanshawe was able to hold off the hard charging Saints. Alex Temesy (Amherstburg) led the Saints with 18 points including four triples and added five rebounds. Matt Nuna (Windsor) scored 14 points off the bench for St. Clair while Xavier Jones (Tecumseh) also reached double figures with 11 points to go with seven rebounds. Lamar Milburn (Windsor) provided the hustle for the Saints that allowed them to cut the lead in the third quarter scoring nine points adding five rebounds and several key assists.

Fanshawe's Boyd Vassell scored 20 of his game-high 24 points in the opening half to lead his team to victory.

The Saints basketball teams host Niagara College at the Chatham Thames Campus Healthplex on Sunday, Jan. 13 with the women tipping off at 1 p.m. and men at 3 p.m. Both games will be televised on Cogeco Chatham.
