MOHAWK 111, CANADORE 68

It was the type of game Mohawk men's basketball hadn't played in some time. The Mountaineers whipped the winless Canadore Panthers of North Bay 111-68 as the OCAA second semester play got under way at the Fennell Gymnasium Sunday (Jan. 13).

After leading 67-33 at halftime, Mohawk's bench saw plenty of action. In fact, more minutes than the starters. "We came out in the first quarter and did what we had to do," said Mountaineers head coach Brian Jonker. "And that provided the opportunity to get the bench alot of deserved minutes in the second half."

Star guard Manny Campbell, who played only fifteen and a half minutes, still led Mohawk with 16 points. Alex Reis had 14, Patrick Iavarone contributed 12 points and Braedon Lenters scored 11. Canadore's Christian Casimier led all scorers in the game with 22 points.

While the Panthers saw their record fall to 0-11, the Mountaineers improved to 9-2 and moved to within two points of the Fanshawe Falcons and the Sheridan Bruins atop the West Region standings. Sunday's result sets up a big showdown between Mohawk and Fanshawe in London Wednesday (Sep. 16).
