MOHAWK 74, FANSHAWE 59

Two nationally ranked teams took the floor at the Glen Johnston Athletics Centre on Wednesday night, with the fifth-ranked Fanshawe Falcons taking on the seventh-ranked Mohawk Mountaineers

It was a battle of Fanshawe's speed versus Mohawk's size. In the end it was the Mountaineers coming out on top, winning by a final score of 74-59.

The Falcons quickness and outside shooting got them out to a 15-8 first quarter lead. In the second, Mohawk elected to apply full court pressure which resulted in two quick baskets and a 9-0 run. The Mountaineers outscored the Falcons 30-20 in the second quarter, giving them a 38-35 advantage at the half.

The Mountaineers extended their halftime lead to 12 points in the third, going on to win by 15. Both teams are now tied for second place in the West Division with 10-2 records.

Alex Reis scored 21 points, adding seven rebounds for Mohawk. Gareth Edwards was Fanshawe's leading scorer with 11 points and nine rebounds.

The Falcons travel to Canadore College for their next game on January 20.
