SHERIDAN 81, FANSHAWE 63

BRAMPTON, Ont. - It was far from the full 40-minute effort that the coaches often seek, but the performance of the Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (23-10, 13-2 OCAA) was good enough in spots to pull away from Fanshawe late, securing an 81-63 victory.

"We're certainly happy to get the win, but I think we still have a long way to go in order to get where we want," head coach Jim Flack said. "I thought both clubs had chances in the second half to make a move and we were just a little more fortunate than Fanshawe to get a few bounces here and there."

It was a low-scoring start to the game, as both sides struggled to find their footing offensively.

The Bruins held a 15-7 lead at the end of the first and after Fanshawe trimmed the margin to only two, 17-15, they closed the half on a 14-4  run to lead 31-19 at the break.

Neither club connected on even 30 per cent of their attempts from the floor, with Fanshawe shooting a dismal seven of 39 (17.9 per cent) and Sheridan a not-that-much-better 11 of 42 (26.2 per cent).

Things opened up a bit offensively in the third quarter, with the visitors pulling as close as four, 46-42, but the Double-Blue would lead heading to the final stanza, 51-43.

In the fourth quarter, Sheridan slowly began to pull away and out-scored Fanshawe 30-20, to make the final margin look much more flattering for the home side.

Roshean Keen led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points - to go with eight rebounds and two blocks - while Dylan Periana (13 points, five rebounds, five steals, four assists and zero turnovers), Jahmal McQueen (13 points), Trevor Williams (12 points) and Kadeem Hall (10 points) all hit double figures.

Sheridan has only a couple of days to rest up and prepare for a clash with their rivals from Humber on February 5.

The Hawks are surging heading into the game, having won five of their six contests in 2013, with all wins by double-digits and only a three-point loss to Mohawk.
