MOHAWK 74, ALGOMA 58

The reigning national champion Mohawk men's basketball team upped its record to 16-3 with a comfortable 74-58 victory over Algoma in OCAA play at the Fennell Gym Sunday (Feb. 17). The Mountaineers gabbed a 30-12 first quarter lead and were well on their way.
 
Xzennis Brereton led Mohawk with 14 points. Andrew Cicuttini scored 13 points and added 16 rebounds, while Taylor Dowhaniuk also had 13 points and 12 boards.
 
For Algoma, now 11-8, Brett Zufelt scored 13 points and Samy Mohamed chipped in with 12.
 
The Mountaineers, who had already earned a bye to the OCAA championship, play their final regular season game at home Wednesday night at 8 p.m. against the only team ahead of them in the West Region standings, the Sheridan Bruins.
