ALGONQUIN THUNDER BOLT INTO OCAA PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

OTTAWA - It is a weekend you don't want to miss! The Algonquin men and women's basketball teams have headed into the OCAA provincial championships. The action started yesterday as both teams breezed by their first opponents moving into the semi-finals today.

Tonight, the women will face St. Clair College from the OCAA West Division. St. Clair is a tough opponent, having finished second in the West with a record of 14-4. This will be a competitive game for the still undefeated Thunder.

The women looked good yesterday as they defeated Fanshawe College barely breaking a sweat on the floor. Fifth-year veteran Sandre Bascoe lead the team in points with an impressive 17, followed by point guard, Kim Cupid, with 11.

For the men, yesterday was no different. They defeated Durham College, a regular opponent from the East Division, 89-70. Today they will play long time rivals, the Humber Hawks. Humber secured the top spot of the OCAA West Division also earning themselves a bye into the provincials. They will be hungry for their revenge as the Thunder defeated them in a match up last year at the provincial championships.

The winners of this game will play for the gold medal on Saturday. Tip off will be at 6 p.m. tonight for both games. All championship games are streamed live at www.ocaatv.com. For more information regarding the men and women's provincials follow the links below.
