HANCOCK HAVING FUN AS A TWO-SPORT ATHLETE

HANCOCK HAVING FUN AS A TWO-SPORT ATHLETE

Canadore College athlete Charlie Hancock's 2013-14 rookie varsity season is off to an impressive start.

Hancock is Canadore College's first dual sport-athlete in years. If you believe being a varsity athlete is tough enough, try adding another sport into the mix.

Hancock manages to balance a drive in from Mattawa daily, five practices a week, a part-time job and most importantly his studies.

How does he manage to balance everything and where does he find the time?

"The only way I manage to balance everything is with a great supporting cast. My sisters, my mom, and Stacy (basketball coach) have been awesome. Without Stacy I'm not sure I would even be at Canadore right now. I have been more committed to my student-athletic goals this year than I have been in the past and it definitely helps that I'm having so much fun! I only have so much time in a day and I enjoy spending it with the guys."

Both his basketball team and volleyball team got off to a .500 start with two wins and two losses. And both coaches seem pleased with his rookie debut and performance in the OCAA season thus far.

Basketball head coach Stacy Gallagher says, "He's a natural athlete and his offensive instincts are noticeable in both sports."

In five basketball games Charlie has averaged 11 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.

Volleyball teammate and OCAA fourth leading scorer, Dan Trudel says, "Charlie had a great weekend and having him helps our team dynamic. With Charlie we can move Dave to the middle and throw up a bigger block, which helps our defensive system. He brings height, depth and character and I'm looking forward to playing next to him in games to come."

In four volleyball matches Charlie has accumulated a very impressive 75 kills, five blocks and two service aces making for 82 points for an average of 4.3 points per set ranking him in the top seven in OCAA league scoring.
