GEORGIAN 68, ST. LAWRENCE (K) 56

BARRIE, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team claimed their first win of the season after a hard fought 68-56 victory over the St. Lawrence Vikings on Saturday afternoon in Barrie.

Both teams played a very tight defensive first half which saw the Grizzlies lead 20-19 after two quarters. In the third quarter the shooting heated up for both teams as the Grizzlies and Vikings scored more points in the third quarter than either did in the entire first half.

The game entered the final frame all tied up at 41-41. Then the Grizzlies took over largely thanks to the play of Justin Mitchell.

Mitchell, a second year guard from Newmarket, scored 11 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Grizzlies to victory.

Teq Zwarych made an impressive OCAA debut. The 6-foot-4 forward from Whitby had 16 points with nine boards including some key points down the stretch for the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies will continue their opening weekend on Sunday when they host the Fleming Knights at the Georgian Athletic Centre at 2 p.m.
