ALGONQUIN 93, DURHAM 75

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's basketball team dropped their third straight game to start the season as they fell 93-75 to the Algonquin Thunder.

Algonquin's perimeter shooting was the key to victory as they outscored Durham 27-9 from beyond the arc. Njuguna Waiganjo powered the Thunder's offence as he drained 24 points, which included going 5-for-11 in three-point shooting. Waiganjo added seven rebounds, five assists and four steals to his stat-line.

Ajahmo Clarke was Durham's leading scorer as he drained 27 points. Clarke would add seven rebounds and four blocks to his totals, but turned the ball over 10 times.

After trading blows for the majority of the first quarter, Algonquin would go on a 9-2 run to take a 28-17 lead after 10 minutes. Algonquin would carry that momentum over as they opened the quarter on a 10-3 run to take a commanding 38-20 lead.

Algonquin would extend their lead to 31 points, but Durham would close out the game outscoring Algonquin 16-3 to make the score a little more respectable.

This marked the third straight game where 2011 OCAA athlete of the year Eric Smith was on the sideline with a shoulder injury.

Durham will be on the road on Saturday as they travel to Buffalo to take on Hilbert CC. Game time for the non-conference game is 5 p.m.
