GEORGE BROWN 87, GEORGIAN 63

TORONTO - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's basketball teams travelled south to face the George Brown Huskies on Friday night in Toronto where they found a tough opponent.

The Grizzlies men's team put their perfect 2-0 record on the line but it was the Huskies who jumped out to an early lead. George Brown went on a 12-2 run to end the first quarter with a 16-point lead and never turned back.

Despite their best efforts the hole was too big for the Grizzlies to overcome as they fell 87-63. Georgian's pair of rookie guards from Ottawa, Jordy Kabuya and Chris Anderson led the team with 11 points each.

Vadim Halimov (Uzbekistan) was unstoppable for the Huskies putting up 34 points to improve their record to 3-1 on the season.

On the women's side it was a tough second quarter that did the Grizzlies in. Trailing by just one point at the end of the first quarter, the Grizzlies couldn't stop the Huskies attack led by Quichell Barriffe (Toronto) who scored 10 of her team-high 12 points in the second quarter alone giving her team a 30-19 lead at the half.

Georgian clawed back in the third quarter to make it just a six point deficit heading into the fourth but it was too little too late for the Grizzlies as they fell 52-43.

Summer Bly (Barrie) continued her strong start scoring 25 points as the team fell to 1-2 on the season.

The Grizzlies will continue their road trip in Ottawa this weekend with games against Algonquin and La Cité (men only) before travelling to face Seneca next Tuesday.

The next Georgian men's home game will be on Sunday, Nov. 17 against Canadore at 4:30 p.m. The men's and women's teams will both play at home on Friday, Nov. 22 when they host the Loyalist Lancers at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
