ALGONQUIN 75, ST. LAWRENCE (K) 53

KINGSTON, Ont. - Fresh off their 74-59 upset victory over the Loyalist College Lancers, the St. Lawrence College (SLC) men's basketball team was looking for their second upset victory, and fifth consecutive win when they hosted the 5-0 Algonquin College Thunder.

The Vikings got off to a great first half, leading the Thunder 27-26. SLC would make Algonquin shoot just 29 percent from the field (9-of-31) and were also able to out-rebound the Thunder by six. The great start sparked the confidence that the Vikings played with in the game against Loyalist.

However, SLC quickly fell behind in the third quarter as Algonquin would score 25 points to SLC's 10.

"Algonquin turned it up another notch, and we could not respond to them," said Vikings head coach Barry Smith.

"We got the start that we wanted, keeping them to 26 points in the first half. But down the stretch we didn't get the containment against their big shooters."

The fourth quarter featured more of the same, as the Thunder remained in full control of the game right to the 75-53 final score. Donald Gibson led the Vikings with 15 points, and Chris Offspring continues to impress with his rebounding, finishing with 19.

SLC will hit the road for their next two games, playing Seneca College on Friday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m., and then face the George Brown College Huskies on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m.

The game against Algonquin was also Lucas Stevens Night, as all the gate revenue and funds received throughout the game were generously donated to the Stevens family, in support of their son Lucas who is currently battling Leukemia.

"We were approached a few weeks about Lucas and his circumstances and quickly agreed that we would be able to help," said SLC athletics director Herb Steacy.

Fans were able to make donations, and purchase tickets for prizes. In the end, a total of over $500 was raised for the Stevens family and their son.
