DURHAM 87, GEORGIAN 74

BARRIE, Ont. - It was a tough night for the Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's basketball teams as they hosted the Durham Lords Wednesday night at the Georgian College Athletic Centre in Barrie.

Coming off a dramatic buzzer beater to win their last game Friday night the Grizzlies men's team couldn't find the same energy they had in that contest.

Georgian battled but found themselves trailing and trying to play catch-up for most of the night eventually falling 87-74.

The Grizzlies couldn't find an answer for Durham's veteran point guard Ajahmo Clarke who had a game-high 34 points.

Teq Zwarych (Whitby) led the Grizzlies in with 16 points and in rebounds with 12 while second-year forward Glody Madymba had a solid effort off the bench scoring 15.

Georgian now holds a 5-4 record on the season to sit in fifth place in the OCAA East Division standings.

On the women's side Georgian had another incredible effort from Barrie's Summer Bly.

Last week's Grizzlies athlete of the week had a season-high 27 points along with 19 rebounds and six blocks.

Georgian also had a good effort from Collingwood native Erial Barnard who had 10 points to give her double digits in points for the second straight game.

The Lords were too much for the Grizzlies to handle as Georgian fell 57-43.

Both Grizzlies basketball team's will wrap up the first half of their OCAA season's Wednesday night when they travel to face the Centennial Colts in Scarborough.

BARRIE, Ont. - The Durham College men's basketball team took another step in the right direction in turning around their season as they earned an 87-74 road victory over the Georgian Grizzlies Wednesday night.

Heading into the match Georgian looked to be the heavy favourtie as they sported a 5-3 record while Durham sat at 2-6. However, the Lords would send the hometown crowd disappointed as they posted their second straight victory.

Durham's 87 point performance tied the most allowed by the Grizzlies defence this season.

Ajahmo Clarke (Ajax, Ont.), who entered the game second in OCAA scoring averaging 27.1 points per game, paced the Lords offence scoring 34 points. Clarke recorded his sixth straight double-double as he added 10 rebounds to his totals.

Also having a big night for Durham on the glass was freshman Aron Naim (Paris, Ont.) who had a team high of 12 rebounds.

Teq Zwarych led the Grizzlies with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

The Lords are tied with three other teams in the OCAA East region with three wins apiece, one game behind St. Lawrence and Centennial for the final two playoff positions.

Durham will close out 2013 next Wednesday night on the road against George Brown College (6-2). If the Lords hope to beat the Huskies, they will have to find a way to stop Vadim Halimov who leads the OCAA in scoring averaging 28.4 points per game.
