GEORGE BROWN 80, DURHAM 71

TORONTO - Despite shooting over 50 percent in the second half, the Durham College men's basketball team fell short of their third straight win as George Brown defeated the Lords 80-71.

The game featured the OCAA's two top scorers with Vadim Halimov (George Brown) and Ajahmo Clarke (Durham) sitting one-two on the scoring charts. Halimov would have the last laugh as he drained 28 points compared to Clarke's 18 as the Huskies pulled off the nine-point victory.

George Brown controlled the battle of the boards as they outrebounded Durham 59-42 which included a whopping 24 in the offensive end. Durham's Eric Smith (Ajax, Ont.) was responsible for most of Durham's rebounds as he had team-high 14 to go along with 23 points.

Saliym Cadogan had a season-high 21-point performance for Durham while Clarke finished with 18 points and four steals.

Akai Nettey of the Huskies drained 19 points that included three from beyond the arc.

Heading into the second half of the season, Durham is four points shy of a playoff position as they sit in ninth place at 3-7. George Brown has won five straight games and sits alone in second place behind the Algonquin Thunder.

The Lords will look to start 2014 on a high note when they travel back to Toronto for the George Brown New Year's Classic. Conference action will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 7 when the Lords host George Brown at 8 p.m.
