FANSHAWE 83, LAMBTON 71 (OT)

LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe men's basketball team (7-3) played host to the Lambton Lions (4-6) on Wednesday night. The Falcons won the game in overtime by a final score of 83-71.

The Falcons were the aggressor to start the game, taking the ball hard to the basket. Three-point shooting kept the Lions in the game, but the Falcons took a 17-10 lead into the second quarter.  A pair of huge dunks by Fanshawe's Jordan Fray and Dexton Freemantle forced the Lions to take an early second quarter time out. The Falcons continued to pound the ball inside and led by as many as 14. Fanshawe's Fray led all players with 11 points at the half, as the Falcons took a 39-26 lead into the break.

Lambton came fired up to start the second half. Lambton's Jon Ravenhorst and Jason Marshell took over the Lions offence, knocking down a combined six three-pointers in the third quarter, helping Lambton to tie the game at 49 going into the final quarter of play.

After Lambton's big man Mike Lucier picked up his fourth personal foul, Fanshawe took the ball right at him, and had a six-point lead with five minutes to go. The Lions would not give up and battled back to take a 58-57 lead, with two minutes to play.

Fanshawe regained the lead and were up by three until Lambton's Marshell hit a very deep, well contested three-pointer to tie the game with 18 seconds to go. Fanshawe wasn't able to convert on their last possession and the game went to overtime tied at 67.

Fanshawe took control early in overtime, taking the ball strong to the hoop. The Falcons scored on their first five possessions and never looked back, winning in overtime 16-4. The Falcons won by a final score of 83-71.

Fanshawe's Fray led the Falcons with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Marshell and Ravenhorst combined for 12 three-pointers for the Lions and scored 21 and 19 points respectively.

Fanshawe's next game takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in Windsor, Ont. versus the St. Clair Saints (6-3).
