LAMBTON 70, REDEEMER 65

HAMILTON, Ont. - It may be too early to tell whether a pair of narrow defeats for the Redeemer men's basketball team will come back to haunt them over the next couple of weeks, but the Royals closed out the weekend with a missed opportunity.

Redeemer dropped their game on Friday to Lambton College, 70-65 and on Saturday to St. Clair College, 76-73. Both games had playoff implications for the Royals as Lambton (5-8) overtook the Royals for the final playoff spot and St. Clair (8-4) moved into fourth place.

Disappointed Redeemer head coach Jamie Girolametto commented, "When it comes to making the playoffs, we are no longer in the driver's seat. Two tough losses for us where it was a one or two possession game throughout. Whenever we pulled the score back to one point, tied it up, or took the lead, we made costly errors and put ourselves back in the hole."

Redeemer's Calvin Turnbull (Burlington, Ont.) put up 16 points on Friday and Saturday leading the Royals in scoring both nights. Turnbull had 10 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals on Friday to go along with his eight rebounds and four steals on Saturday afternoon.

Benn Ibrahim (Windsor, Ont.) had a solid weekend as well adding 16 points on Friday night while Almar Knowles (Hamilton, Ont.) chipped in with 14 points on Saturday.

Sitting in a tie with Lambton for sixth place in the West, the Royals have a big upcoming weekend when they travel to Sudbury for a back-to-back against Cambrian College (1-9) on Friday and Saturday.
