FANSHAWE 85, CENTENNIAL 80

TORONTO - The Fanshawe men's basketball team lost to the Mohawk Mountaineers last week but came back with a huge playoff win on the road versus the Centennial Colts to keep their season alive.

Fanshawe will now head to the OCAA provincial championship, starting on Thursday at Sheridan College.

Fanshawe was on the road last Wednesday versus the Mohawk Mountaineers (15-3) for its final regular season game of the year. Mohawk jumped out to a 28-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Fanshawe's Chris Stanhope finished with a team-high 16 points but the Falcons lost the game 97-73. With the loss, Fanshawe would have to go on the road to Centennial College for a cross-over playoff game to determine who would go to the OCAA provincial championship.

On Saturday afternoon, the Falcons took the court against the Centennial Colts (10-10). Fanshawe was fired up to start the game and led by 11 at the half. The Colts wouldn't give up and slowly crept back in the game.

The Falcons would hold on to win 85-80 and Fanshawe's Stanhope and Chavaun Miller-Bennett led the team on offence with 26 and 25 points respectively.

Fanshawe will now head to the OCAA provincial championship, hosted by Sheridan College, starting on Thursday. The Falcons will face the Mohawk Mountaineers in the quarter-finals at 6 p.m.
