HUMBER 78, FANSHAWE 64

LONDON, Ont. - On Wednesday night, the Fanshawe Falcons men's basketball team (7-5) lost to the No. 8 CCAA nationally-ranked Humber Hawks (10-3) by a final score of 78-64.

The Hawks hit their first three shots of the game and jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. The Falcons settled down and a three pointer by David Sewell brought Fanshawe within six. Humber finished the first on a 15-7 run and pushed their lead to 13 points going into the second.

Another 7-0 run by Humber to start the second quarter pushed the Hawks lead to 20. Back-to-back drives by Jordan Fray brought the Falcons to within 16 but that is as close as they would get in the half. Humber outscored the Falcons 22-13 in the quarter and took a 51-29 lead into the half.

Both teams were in early foul trouble in the second half and Fanshawe took advantage. With six minutes left in the quarter, both teams were in the bonus. The Hawks started to settle for outside jumpers instead of taking the ball inside but Fanshawe continued to play aggressive and slowly chipped away at the Hawks lead. At the end of the third quarter, the Falcons were only down by 12.

Humber came out strong in the fourth and a pair of big baskets in the paint for Greg Edelsward pushed the Hawks lead back to 19. Humber went on to win the game 78-64.

The Falcons host the Niagara Knights (0-12) this Saturday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. in the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre.
