GEORGIAN 81, LOYALIST 68

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies basketball teams concluded their eastern road trip Sunday afternoon when they took on the Loyalist Lancers in Belleville, Ont.

The Grizzlies men's team was a more determined group coming off a close defeat the day before to St. Lawrence and it showed in the first quarter.

Georgian came out scoring, opening the game on a 25-6 run and led by 17 points after one quarter.

The Grizzlies kept it rolling leading by as many as 27 points on their way to their first victory of the season 81-68 over the Lancers.

Teq Zwarych (Whitby, Ont.) once again led the Grizzlies in scoring with 19 points and also had good efforts out of Justin Mitchell (Newmarket, Ont.) with 17 and Mark Brown (Toronto) with 15 points.

It was a reverse of fortune for the Grizzlies women's team as they had the slow start and it was the Lancers who got up to a lead as much as 20-9 in the first quarter.

The Grizzlies had a good effort to battle back and to tie the game late in the third quarter but ran out of gas at the end falling 76-68.

Erial Barnard (Collingwood, Ont.) had a team-high 17 points while rookie guard Lindsay Kirby (Georgetown, Ont.) had 15 points.

The Grizzlies men's team will travel to face the Canadore Panthers on Saturday before both the men's and women's teams host their home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 5 against the Centennial Colts at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
