FANSHAWE 91, REDEEMER 70

LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe Falcons men's basketball team defeated the Redeemer Royals with a final score of 91-70. Fanshawe is now 2-1 in the OCAA West Division.

The Falcons took the lead over the Redeemer Royals right from the tip. Ryan Pflanzner opened the game with a three-point basket followed by Trent Payne who scored a quick two inside, giving Fanshawe an early 5-0 lead. The Falcons jumped ahead 11-2 with only five minutes gone by, forcing the Royals to take a timeout. With the defensive intensity on high, the Falcons weren't afraid to hit the floor for the ball. The Falcons held the Royals to just one made field goal in the first, and led 20-7 heading into the second.

In the second quarter, the Falcons pushed the ball, running up and down the floor. The three ball continued to fall for Fanshawe as OCAA player of the week Kyle McConnell, Connor Therrien and Pflanzner all connected from downtown. Fanshawe had a 20-point lead heading into the half.

Opening the third quarter, the Royals mounted a comeback, starting the half on an 18-0 run, closing the lead to just two for the Falcons. Fanshawe settled down, making back-to-back baskets, and reestablished its lead.

McConnell knocked down yet another big three pointer, this time at the buzzer, to give the Falcons a 13-point lead with one quarter to play. Fanshawe pulled away in the final minutes and won by a final score of 91-70.

Next up, the Falcons are on the road to take on the Niagara Knights (0-2) on Friday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m.
