After taking a three-point lead into the second quarter, the Lords held the gap through the first half. Up 31-28, Durham would increase their lead to six points (38-32) before ultimately letting the Grizzlies take control late in the third with a 10-0 run.

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's basketball teams had a successful road trip this weekend when they travelled to face the Durham Lords and Fleming Knights.

The men's team put together a perfect weekend, first knocking off the previously undefeated Durham Lords 74-62 on Friday night.

After trailing by three points at halftime, the Grizzlies turned it on in the second half including a 28-point effort in the final quarter to knock off the sixth ranked team nationally.

Justin Mitchell (Newmarket, Ont.) had a team-high 18 points while Tequilan Zwarych (Whitby, Ont.) had 16 points and 15 rebounds.

On Saturday it was another big game for Zwarych who scored a team-high 33 points and 14 rebounds as the Grizzlies defeated the Knights 108-87.

It was Zwarych's eighth double-double this season and helps give the Grizzlies a 7-2 record on the season as they hover at the top of the east division standings.

On the women's side the Grizzlies had some disappointment on Friday night as after putting together a solid effort Georgian let a six point lead fade away in the remaining minutes and falling to the Lords 72-71.

Erial Barnard (Collingwood, Ont.) led the team with 17 points while Hannah Pearsall (Barrie, Ont.) had 16 points and tied for a team-high in rebounds with six.

The Grizzlies took the positives from that effort and transferred them to their match against Fleming on Saturday.

This time it was Pearsall again along with Mackenzie Merkley (Guelph, Ont.) who had big efforts as each put up 15 points as the Grizzlies defeated the Knights 65-25.

Both basketball teams will wrap up the first half of their OCAA season's this coming Friday when they host the Seneca Sting at the Georgian Athletic Centre at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Fans attending the game are asked to support the Barrie & District Christmas drive by donating new unwrapped toys, non-perishable food or cash donations.
