FANSHAWE 79, HUMBER 72

LONDON, Ont. - On Friday night, the Fanshawe Falcons men basketball team upset the CCAA No. 1 nationally-ranked Humber Hawks by a final score of 79-72. The Falcons are now 7-1 on the season with one game remaining before the holiday break.

Fanshawe came out strong so start the game, jumping on top of the Hawks 28-19 after the first quarter of play. The Falcons controlled the tempo in the first with a very strong defensive effort. In the second, the Hawks slowly made a comeback, outscoring the Falcons by eight points with some outstanding shooting from behind the arc. At the half, Fanshawe held a one point lead, 36-35.

In the third quarter, the intensity picked up on both ends. The lead switched hands on several occasions before the Falcons went on a big run to finish the quarter. Connor Therrien hit a huge three pointer from the corner helping Fanshawe to move back up by nine with one quarter to play.

Fanshawe's pressure defence caused a number of turnovers for the Hawks but Humber wasn't going to just give up. With the Falcons leading by as many as fifteen, 74-59, the Hawks slowly chipped away and had the game to within five with just one minute remaining.  Clutch free throws by Fanshawe kept the game out of reach as the Falcons went on to win 79-72.

The Fanshawe Falcons next game takes place on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at home versus the Mohawk Mountaineers (7-1). The game tips off at 8 p.m. at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre.
