ST. LAWRENCE (K) 100, FLEMING 54

KINGSTON, Ont. - Donald Gibson finished with an OCAA career-high 35 points in the St. Lawrence Vikings convincing 100-54 win over the Fleming College Knights. It's an important two points for SLC as they continue to keep pace in the OCAA east division to reach the post-season.

SLC controlled the first half, but it wasn't as clean as the coaching staff had drawn up. On the transition from offence to defence, the Vikings had the advantage with their conditioning as they consistently ran the court quicker than the Fleming Knights.

"Against a strong opponent, we may have been in trouble," said SLC head coach Barry Smith.

It was a sloppy start to the second half, but after a Vikings timeout, SLC got back to their game plan and responded with a much stronger effort on defence, which quickly resulted in several Fleming turnovers. Offensively, SLC showed excellent ball movement that allowed the Vikings shooters to get clean looks at long-range shots, and for the SLC centre's Donald Gibson and Brad Richards to dominate under the net.

In the fourth quarter, the Vikings began to put the game out of reach, outscoring the Knights 25-10 leading to the 100-54 victory.

The Knights did not have an answer for Gibson, who finished just one rebound shy of a double-boule with 35 points and nine rebounds.

The 6-5 Vikings will host the 2-9 La Cité Coyotes on Friday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m.

It is a big test for SLC on Saturday, Jan. 17 when they host the 6-5 Algonquin College Thunder at 3 p.m. Both teams are tied with 12 points each in the OCAA east division in fifth place, along with Loyalist, George Brown, and Seneca College.
