MOHAWK 99, LAMBTON 87

SARNIA, Ont. - The Mohawk Mountaineers downed the Lambton Lions 99-87 in men's basketball in Sarnia, Ont., on Saturday.

Matt Fennell scored 27 points and added 12 rebounds. Mohawk got off to a sluggish start, down by six points after the first half. The team didn't get to the hotel until 1 a.m. following their 93-75 victory at St. Clair Friday. Lambton did not play the previous night.

Matt Savel had 21 points and seven assists for the Mountaineers. Andrew Cicuttini scored 19 and added seven rebounds and Taylor Dowhaniuk had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

On Friday, Jan. 30, Mohawk plays at Redeemer in a huge showdown between the Mountain rivals. The Mountaineers have won nine straight overall and the Royals have taken 11 straight overall.

Meanwhile, the Mountaineer women did it again. They defeated Lambton 67-45. Stef Hrymak scored 23 points, Jen Jen Abella notched 15 and Careena Browne chipped in with six.

Combined with the previous night's 79-55 verdict at St. Clair, the Mountaineers improved to 13-1, with all of their wins coming in succession after losing their opener at Humber on Oct. 23. Mohawk is in first place in the OCAA west division, and will play Mountain foe Redeemer Friday, Jan. 30 in Ancaster, Ont.
