REDEEMER 78, ST. CLAIR 75

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair men's basketball team had control of this game in the third quarter holding a 12-point lead but could not hang on as Redeemer University College (Ancaster, Ont.) managed to squeak out a 78-75 win at the SportsPlex Saturday afternoon.

St. Clair built on a 36-33 half time lead and up 53-41 midway through the third quarter seemed to have the momentum. However, Redeemer stayed within striking distance and outscored St. Clair 27-15 in the deciding fourth quarter. The Saints were on the free throw line with a chance to tie or take the lead but had to settle for a difficult last second three-point attempt that did not force overtime.

Stephan Gray (Milton, Ont.) was the St. Clair player of the game leading his team in scoring with 16 points adding four rebounds, six assists and five steals. Charles Baskin (Detroit, Mich.) scored 12 of his 14 points in the first half while fellow point guard Max Reiner (Amherstburg, Ont./General Amherst) scored 11 points to go with five assists. Shavon Gayle (Windsor, Ont./Catholic Central) also reached double figures with 10 points adding four assists and six steals for the Saints.

Redeemer's Calvin Turnbull (Burlington, Ont.) had a monster game leading all scorers with 34 points to go with 14 rebounds and seven assists in the win.
