GEORGIAN 103, FLEMING 58

BARRIE, Ont. - It was a big afternoon for the Georgian Grizzlies basketball teams on Saturday at the Georgian Athletic Centre when they hosted the Fleming Knights.

After a tight first quarter, the Grizzlies continued a strong shooting performance right through the remainder of the game leading to a blowout victory of 103-58 over the Knights.

The Grizzlies men's team rode an incredible performance from Abed Emran (Brampton, Ont.) who shot nearly 70 per cent from beyond the arc hitting nine 3-pointers as part of a team-high 35-point performance.

Sophomore Tequilan Zwarych had another strong game scoring 24 points and 21 rebounds including a thunderous alley-oop in the third quarter.

The win snaps a two-game losing streak for the Grizzlies who now are evened up with the St. Lawrence-Kingston Vikings for second place in the east division. The Vikings still hold a game in hand on the Grizzlies and the two teams will meet next weekend.

On the women's side, the Grizzlies had an impressive victory scoring a season-high in points while giving up a season low defensively in an 86-21 win over the Knights.

Georgian had four players hit double digits in scoring led by Hannah Pearsall (Guelph, Ont.) who had a career-high 28 points in the win.

Teammate Shelby Clark (Barrie, Ont.) had a double-double scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The victory keeps the Grizzlies thin playoff hopes alive as they will be looking to win their final two games and get some help to slip into the final playoff spot in the east.

The Grizzlies will next be in action when they host the St. Lawrence-Kingston Vikings next Sunday, Feb. 15 at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
