HUMBER 96, MOHAWK 89

HAMILTON, Ont. - Humber's basketball teams completed the regular OCAA season, scoring victories over Mohawk's men and women at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre on Friday.

In each case, the Hawks finished in first place in their division and Mohawk wound up second. But both teams were already assured berths in their respective OCAA championship.

The Mountaineer women bowed 82-53 to Humber. Natalie Hagopian had 17 points for the Hawks. Aleena Domingo had 16 points and Ruth Holland added 14.

For Mohawk, Brittany Gazzola scored 15 points and Stef Hrymak added seven.

The Mountaineers, which had a 16-game win string snapped, wound up 16-2 for the season. They lost their opener to Humber and the finale as well. The Hawks wound up 17-1.

Both teams will play in the OCAA Women's Basketball Championship at Centennial College in Scarborough, Ont., from March 5-7.

Meantime, Humber's men beat Mohawk 96-89. It marked the first home loss for the Mountaineers against Canadian college opposition since the opening of the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre two years ago.

Vule Grujic led the Hawks with 21 points, while Tyrone Dickson added 20.

Matt Fennell scored 29 points for the Mountaineers, while Andrew Cicuttini had 21 and Matt Savel notched 20.

Humber finished the regular season at 17-1 while Mohawk was 15-3. The Hawks were 2-0 against the Mountaineers in the regular campaign.

Both teams will go to the OCAA Men's Basketball Championship at Durham College in Oshawa, Ont., from March 6-8.
