SCARBOROUGH, Ont. - It was a big night for the Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team on Wednesday night with plenty to play for in their final regular season match as they travelled to face the Centennial Colts in Scarborough, Ont.

The Grizzlies controlled at least part of their playoff fate as a victory over the Colts would lock up second place in the OCAA east division standings and would give Georgian an automatic bye to the OCAA championship. A loss would take their fate out of their hands and they could end up playing a playoff game to even get to the provincial tournament.

After the Grizzlies opening the second half to a great start the Colts scoring got red hot closing a once 13-point lead to a tie with barely any time remaining in the game.

Luckily for the Grizzlies, Teq Zwarych (Whitby, Ont.) got to the foul line with just 0.2 seconds remaining in the game. Zwarych sunk his final shot with all the pressure on him to give the Grizzlies a 71-70 victory.

Last week's Grizzlies athlete of the week had yet another double-double in the contest with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Zwarych finishes the regular season with 16 double-double games while the Grizzlies will end the regular season with a 14-6 record good for second place in the east division.

Justin Mitchell (Newmarket, Ont.) also had a strong game for Georgian leading the team with 18 points, while Mark Brown (Toronto) and Glody Madymba (Mississauga, Ont.) were also key contributors with 10 points each.

Georgian has earned a bye to the OCAA championship which takes place March 6-8 hosted by Durham College in Oshawa, Ont., where the top eight teams will compete for the title.

In the Grizzlies final women's game of the season, Georgian had a tough time finding their scoring early which put them too far in a hole to get out of in the second half as they fell 55-39.

Kelsey Dunkeld had 10 points for the Grizzlies to lead the team in their final game of the season.
