MOHAWK WINS IN KINGSTON AGAIN

KINGSTON, Ont. - For the third consecutive year and the fourth time in five years, Mohawk College has won the Vikings Men's Basketball Invitational Tournament in Kingston, Ont.

Xzennis Brereton scored 17 points to lead the Mountaineers to an 85-75 victory over John Abbott College Islanders of Montreal, in the final of the 21st annual event at St. Lawrence College on Sunday.

Brereton was named a tournament all-star while his teammate Jeff Hunt, who had 15 points and 14 rebounds in the final, captured the most valuable player award.

Lamar Barr scored 14 points and had four rebounds, Kareem Collins had 11 points and five boards and Adrian Achonwa picked up 11 points plus nine rebounds.

"We weren't sure what to expect this weekend," said Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker. "But (we are) pleasantly surprised with the result. We have just scratched the surface and have a chance to be real good by the end of the year."
