ST. CLAIR 76, SAULT 57

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair men's basketball team were able to outlast Sault College (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) on Sunday afternoon at the SportsPlex gritting out a 76-57 victory.

A defensive approach committed to rebounding allowed the Saints to shoot a high percentage (49.2 per cent) for the game. St. Clair out-rebounded Sault 44-25 in the contest but used a 14-1 run to end the third quarter and carried that momentum into the fourth quarter. Sault trailed 37-28 at halftime but cut the lead to just 44-42 late in the third quarter. However, that is when the Saints turned on the jets and exploded to put the game away.

Rookie guard Trevon Mollison (Brampton, Ont.) scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Saints but he had a tremendous supporting cast with nine of 11 players dressed notching points on the game sheet. Fifth-year transfer forward Patrick Donnelly (Oakville, Ont.) scored 15 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the double-double adding five assists for St. Clair. Rookie Malique Calloo (Windsor, Ont./Catholic Central) scored 12 points with second-year transfer guard Evan Gilmore (Etobicoke, Ont./Father Redmond) chipping in with 10 points for the Saints.

Forwards Tom Brady (Chatham, Ont.) and Gil Atencio (Panama City, Panama) each deserve honourable mentions with fine performances to lift St. Clair at certain points of the game. Brady scored nine points with seven in the first quarter to stake St. Clair to an early lead while Atencio scored four points in the fourth quarter run to put the game away.

Sault's Macbeth Madziba (Dundas, Ont.) and Joey Bruni (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) each scored 14 points in the loss.
