NIAGARA 90, ST. CLAIR 82

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair men's basketball team fell 90-82 to Niagara College (Welland, Ont.) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex.

The Saints came out well staking themselves to a 30-21 lead after the opening quarter and after the teams traded a low scoring second quarter were still ahead 44-34 at halftime.

But Canada's ninth-ranked team would not be held down forcing the pace creating chances at the free throw line and foul trouble for St. Clair. Niagara held an advantage in free throw points (25-16), points off turnovers (32-22) and points off the bench (52-29) but also outscored the Saints 56-38 in the second half.

The lone bright spot statistically for St. Clair was three-point shooting where the Saints made six to Niagara's one.

St. Clair's Charles Baskin (Detroit, Mich.) was effective getting to the tin leading his team in scoring with 18 points but also dished out six assists. Nik Veigli (Essex, Ont./Essex District) had another good shooting game making four triples to score 13 points for the Saints.

Gil Atencio (Panama City, Panama) filled the stat line for St. Clair with 10 points, six rebounds and an impressive five blocked shots. Jermaine Lynch (Windsor, Ont./JL Forster) and Anthony Limbombe (Windsor, Ont./St. Anne) both also reached double figures scoring 10 points apiece for the Saints.

Niagara's Levi Makuna (Hamilton, Ont.) scored a game-high 23 points in the win.
