DEJAZMATCH JAMES SCORES HIS 1,000TH CAREER POINT IN SEMESTER CLOSING WIN OVER FLEMING

DEJAZMATCH JAMES SCORES HIS 1,000TH CAREER POINT IN SEMESTER CLOSING WIN OVER FLEMING

TORONTO - George Brown men's basketball closed the opening semester with a 94-85 win over Fleming on Wednesday night, improving to 9-1 on the season.

Guard Dejazmatch James, a fifth-year Husky and one of the program's all-time greats, scored his 1,000th career point early in the third quarter. James has had an incredibly successful five-year run with the Huskies, and views his growth and the teams as one and the same.

"Learning to trust the process and my teammates has been huge for me. I've become a leader, someone who provides positivity and brings everyone together - one of my biggest lessons has been that we are all one big family, we need to all be pulling in the same direction. And that's what we're doing right now."

The 6-foot-3 guard finished his night with a game-high 26 points, and the milestone solidifies his spot among the best to ever represent George Brown. He's been spectacular all season, averaging over 16 points a night, providing stout defence and clearly asserting himself among Ontario's elite guards - it may well be the best basketball he's played as a Husky.

"Attitude has been my biggest adjustment over the past five years, and it's really turned around now to the point that I feel none of it is about me, it's all about the team. Looking forward, it's all about taking it one game at a time and attacking small goals. We plan on having success at season's end, but aren't looking that far ahead. One step at a time."

The Huskies put the pedal down late in the third after a so-so first two and a half quarters, led by James and point guard Alex Petronis. George Brown outscored the Knights by eighth in the third quarter, a lead they would not relinquish against the scrappy visitors.

Petronis finished with 23 points and nine boards, while standout freshman Adam Costanzo was solid yet again, with seven points and 11 boards.

"The real work now begins after the break," said James.

The Huskies finish the semester a game back of Seneca for top spot in the division, and now look forward to the East-West Holiday Challenge.
