CASCART NAMED OCAA MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

TORONTO - Humber College's DeQuon Cascart (North York, Ont.) is the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

The fifth-year guard was among the OCAA league leaders averaging 21.5 points per game, scoring 172 points in eight regular season games. He also contributed 38 rebounds, 32 assists and 11 steals. Also named West Division Player of the Year, Cascart is a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian and headlines the West Division First-Team All-Stars.

Zerious Loney (Ottawa, Ont.) of Algonquin is the East Division Player of the Year. The third-year forward was also among the OCAA league leaders averaging 23.6 points per game, scoring 189 points in eight regular season games. He also contributed 54 rebounds, 19 assists and six steals. Loney is also a CCAA All-Canadian and a member of the East Division First-Team All-Stars.

David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, Mich.) of St. Clair is also a CCAA All-Canadian. The fifth-year guard was third in the OCAA with 196 total points, averaging 21.8 per game. He also contributed 32 rebounds, 19 assists and a dozen steals. Gomez is also a West Division First-Team All-Star.

Humber's Frank Mitchell (Toronto, Ont.) is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. The West Division Defensive Player of the Year led the OCAA averaging 18.0 rebounds per game, over five boards better than his closest rival. Mitchell's 144 rebounds also topped all OCAA players. The West Division Rookie of the Year is also a West Division First-Team All-Star and headlines the West Division All-Rookie Team.

Humber's Omar Miles is the OCAA Coach of the Year. The Hawks were undefeated in an abbreviated OCAA regular season with a record of 9-0, winning the West Division championship by two games. The West Division Coach of the Year is also the nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year.

The OCAA Scoring Champion is Romain McCalla (Whitby, Ont.) of Fleming. The third-year guard averaged 25.4 points totalling 203 in eight regular season games. The East Division Scoring Champion is also an East Division First-Team All-Star.

Abdul Majid (Milton, Ont.) of St. Lawrence is the East Division Rookie of the Year. The guard was second among OCAA players averaging 24.3 points in six games, totalling 146. Majid is also an East Division First-Team All-Star and headlines the East Division All-Rookie Team.

Chad Bewley of Georgian is the East Division Coach of the Year. Under Bewley's first year of stewardship, the Grizzlies were 6-2 during the abbreviated regular season, easily advancing to the post-season.

Conestoga's Terell Lloyd (Woodstock, Ont.) is the West Division Scoring Champion. The first-year forward averaged 24.3 points in nine games, scoring a league-high 219. A West Division Second-Team All-Star, Lloyd is also a member of the West Division All-Rookie Team.

Jordan Anderson (Markham, Ont.) of Seneca is the East Division Defensive Player of the Year. The fourth-year point guard contributed 17 rebounds and 12 steals statistically as part of a Seneca unit which kept its opponents to a respectable 40.6 field goal percentage.

The East Division Sixth Man of the Year is Tyvell Peters (North York, Ont.) of East Division champion George Brown. The fourth-year guard averaged 12.5 points per game totalling 75 to go along with 14 assists and 11 steals.

The West Division Sixth Man of the Year is Jesiah Deerr (Whitby, Ont.) of St. Clair. The third-year guard averaged 13.1 points per game totalling 118 and was fifth in the OCAA with 75 rebounds.

In addition to Cascart, Gomez and Mitchell, OCAA West Division First-Team All-Stars include Niagara's Delroy Grandison (Bahamas) and Sheridan's Mohamud Qasim (Mississauga, Ont.).

Joining Loney, McCalla and Majid as OCAA East Division First-Team All-Stars are George Brown's Teshayn Gayle (Montreal, Que.) and Georgian's Jaylen Moore-Tucker (Vancouver, B.C.).

Along with Lloyd, OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Stars include Mohawk's Daniel Graham (Hamilton, Ont.); Redeemer's Isaiah Brinkley (Rochester, N.Y.) and Foster Brown (Stoney Creek, Ont.); and St. Clair's Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, Mich.).

The OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Stars include Algonquin's Simon Desta (Ottawa, Ont.); Durham's Angelo Sarsonas (Toronto, Ont.); George Brown's Robert Ocampo (Toronto, Ont.); Loyalist's Phillip DaSilva (Toronto, Ont.); Seneca's Raeshawn Washington (Scarborough, Ont.).

Joining Mitchell and Lloyd on the West Division All-Rookie Team are Fanshawe's Dante Richards (Oakville, Ont.) and Aidan Whalen (Cambridge, Ont.); and Niagara's Reginald Williams (Toronto, Ont.).

Joining Majid on the East Division All-Rookie Team are Centennial's Covaun Armstrong (Brampton, Ont.); Durham's Keeth Tennant (Toronto, Ont.); George Brown's Jacob Masters (Toronto, Ont.); and Loyalist's Denay Jones-Adams (Toronto, Ont.).
