WINDSOR, Ont. - Conestoga College first-year guard Ladera Ujullu-Obang (Kitchener, Ont.) is the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Basketball Player of the Year. Ujullu-Obang received the award in a ceremony held in Windsor, Ont., on Thursday.
Ujullu-Obang was in the Top 10 in several statistical categories during the regular season. The Condor was second in total points (447), third in points per game average (24.8), third in assists (100), sixth in steals (36) and ninth in total rebounds (133). Also named OCAA Rookie of the Year and West Division Player and Rookie of the Year, Ujullu-Obang is a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian and headlines the West Division First-Team All-Stars and West Division All-Rookie Team.
Adam Hosseini (Toronto, Ont.) of Durham College is the East Division Player of the Year. The fourth-year player was the East Division Scoring Champion during the regular season averaging 21.6 points per game. Hosseini was fourth among all players with 389 points while contributing 77 rebounds, 29 assists and 25 steals. Hosseini is also a CCAA All-Canadian and a member of the East Division First-Team All-Stars.
Shakael Pryce (Pickering, Ont.) of St. Clair College is also a CCAA All-Canadian. The third-year guard was second among all OCAA players with 106 assists and 42 steals during the regular season. Pryce was also one of seven players to average 20.0 points per game or better, helping lead St. Clair to a West Division championship. Pryce is also a West Division First-Team All-Star.
Durham's Desmond Rowley is the OCAA Coach of the Year. In what turned out to be an emotional season, Rowley guided the Lords to a 14-4 record, good for second place in the East Division, an improvement on an abbreviated record of 4-4 last season. The East Division Coach of the Year is also the nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year.
Simeon Smith (Mississauga, Ont.) of Georgian College is the East Division Rookie of the Year. The guard contributed an average of 17.3 points in 16 games totalling 277 points. Smith also contributed 78 rebounds, 40 assists and 22 steals. Smith is also an East Division First-Team All-Star and headlines the East Division All-Rookie Team.
Brian Jonker of Mohawk College is the West Division Coach of the Year. The Mountaineers finished in second place in the West Division with a record of 14-4, much improved compared to their abbreviated record of 1-7 last season.
Two individuals were recognized as the OCAA and West Division Scoring Champions. Journee Joseph (Brampton, Ont.) of Lambton College and Conestoga's Terell Lloyd (Woodstock, Ont.) averaged 25.1 points per game during the regular season. Joseph is also a West Division First-Team All-Star, while Lloyd is a West Division Second-Team All-Star.
Chris Fields (Montreal, Que.) of George Brown College is the East Division Defensive Player of the Year. The fifth-year guard led all OCAA players with 52 steals while also grabbing 52 defensive rebounds and contributing four blocks in 17 games. St. Clair's Terence Williams (Windsor, Ont.) is the West Division Defensive Player of the Year. The fourth-year guard contributed 39 steals, 58 defensive rebounds and seven blocks in 18 games.
The East Division Sixth Man of the Year is George Brown's Jeremiah Brown (Scarborough, Ont.). The fourth-year forward came off the bench in 18 regular season games averaging 12.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 1.0 assists and 0.7 blocks, helping lead the Huskies to an East Division championship. Brown is also an East Division Second-Team All-Star.
Mohawk's Stefan Anisko (Haldimand County, Ont.) is the West Division Sixth Man of the Year. The first-year guard played in 15 games, starting five, averaging 20.0 points per game. Anisko also grabbed 72 rebounds, and led all players with a 91.9 free throw percentage. Anisko is also a member of the West Division All-Rookie Team.
In addition to Ujullu-Obang, Pryce and Joseph, West Division First-Team All-Stars include Daniel Graham (Hamilton, Ont.) of Mohawk and Mohamud Qasim (Toronto, Ont.) of Sheridan College. Joining Hosseini and Smith as East Division First-Team All-Stars are Husam Shallo (Toronto, Ont.) of Centennial College; and George Brown's Robert Ocampo (Toronto, Ont.) and Derrick Taylor (Toronto, Ont.).
Joining Brown as West Division Second-Team All-Stars are Ted Braden (Ottawa, Ont.) of Algonquin College; Centennial's Covaun Armstrong (Brampton, Ont.); Chekinah Mbangu (Ottawa, Ont.) of Collège La Cité; and Durham's Angelo Sarsonas (Scarborough, Ont.). In addition to Lloyd, East Division Second-Team All-Stars include Mohawk's Jerry Mercury Jr. (Scarborough, Ont.); Niagara's Delroy Grandison (Bahamas); and St. Clair's Jalen Harmon (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Chad Vincent-Simon (Scarborough, Ont.).
Along with Ujullu-Obang and Anisko, members of the West Division All-Rookie Team include Kyle Brown-Fazekas (Windsor, Ont.) and Jayar Harewood (Toronto, Ont.) of Humber College; and Parker Davis (Hamilton, Ont.) of Redeemer University. Joining Smith as members of the East Division All-Rookie Team are Centennial's Tayeshaun Crawford (Etobicoke, Ont.); Durham's Kanskie Simon (Pickering, Ont.); and Ahmed Ismail (Welland, Ont.) and Jayden Jack (Toronto, Ont.) of Loyalist College.
