KUMP NAMED OCAA MEN'S RUGBY PLAYER OF THE YEAR

TORONTO - Algonquin College's Thomas Kump (Belleville) is the 2018 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Rugby Player of the Year.

The third-year flanker/hooker was the leader on an Algonquin team which improved by three wins during the 2018 regular season. Kump is also an OCAA All-Star.

The Loyalist Lancers had a pair of major award winners. Mark Napier (Kingston) is the OCAA Rookie of the Year, showing great promise in his debut season, while Kyle Ripley is the OCAA Coach of the Year. Both were also the recipients of these awards in the East Division.

Ryan Connolly (Barrie) of Georgian is the OCAA Scoring Champion. The second-year scrum half scored 96 points on four tries and a league-high 38 converts.

Connolly's Georgian teammate Tennyson Brown (Alliston) is the OCAA West Division Rookie of the Year. The wing scored a team-high nine tries in six matches. Brown is also an OCAA All-Star.

John Daggett of Georgian is the OCAA West Division Coach of the Year. He led the Grizzlies to a fourth consecutive West Division championship with a 5-1 record.

Along with Kump, OCAA East Division All-Stars include Algonquin's Ryan Gillis (Peterborough), Pierre Gouombas (Montreal, Que.) and Matt Taylor (Lunenburg, N.S.); Durham's Daniel Cooper (Uxbridge), Taylor Dallas (Port Perry), Malcolm Hooper (Orangeville), Ty Jacob (Oshawa) and John Stewart (Whitby); Fleming's Mason Flesch (Cobourg) and Bradan Vanstone (Caledon); Loyalist's Nate Hobin (Newcastle) and Thomas Paul (Haliburton); and St. Lawrence's D'Shawn Bowen (Mississauga), Colby Leakey (Kingston) and Elias Pickell (Kingston).

Along with Brown, OCAA West Division All-Stars include Conestoga's Aaron Melnyk (Simcoe) and Cam Warner (Kitchener); Georgian's Alex Butt (Mississauga), Donovan Jacko (Brampton), Liam Wilson (Orillia) and Jacob Young (Barrie); Mohawk's Jaiden Peters (Halton Hills) and Daniel Prentice-Chowen (Grimsby); Seneca's Liam McGuckian (Richmond Hill), Omario Mullings (Scarborough) and Roy Walters (Toronto); and Sheridan's Michael Galipo (Vaughan), Tristan Hylton-Hastings (Mississauga), Justin Tota (Tottenham) and Adam Yhip (Oakville).
