SENECA 3, ALGONQUIN 1 (FINAL)

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Seneca Sting defeated the Algonquin Thunder today in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Volleyball Championships at Nipissing University.

The four set win (25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21) by the Sting allows Seneca to move on to the Bronze Medal game against Mohawk this afternoon.

The first set was closely played with neither team relinquishing significant leads. Each team made a couple of second-hit tips in the exchange of points. The second set began just as close as the first, but Algonquin quickly sprang ahead with a nearly 11-6 lead. Seneca eventually narrowed the gap within two and made the score 18-16. However, Algonquin would prevail to even the match by winning the set. Seneca narrowly won the close third set. In the fourth and final set, the teams remained within a couple of points of each other after Seneca came ahead early 8-4.

Seneca's Player of the Game went to left side hitter Predrag Gajic who posted 12 kills,one serving ace, and two stuff blocks for 15 points. Teammate Peter Christian made ten kills, one serving ace, and three stuff blocks for 14 points.

Algonquin's Player of the Game was awarded to Marko Bagaric. Teammate and outside hitter Joshua Harris made ten kills and one stuff block for 11 points. Algonquin's Aaron L'Ecuyer also made 11 kills for 11 points.

Seneca now advances to the Bronze Medal match against Mohawk after a short rest this afternoon at 3 p.m.
